Anita Zurbrugg joined the American Farmland Trust's Center for Agriculture in the Environment as assistant director in October 2001. The Center, operated jointly with Northern Illinois University's Social Science Research Institute in DeKalb, Illinois, serves as the focal point for AFT's public policy research efforts. Among her responsibilities at CAE, Anita provides ongoing substantive and research support for AFT's Farmland Information Library,, and directs various CAE research projects across the country.

Zurbrugg came to AFT after practicing law with Boyle, Cordes, Witheft & Brown, LLC, a DeKalb County law firm focusing on transactional, agricultural, real estate, probate and land use law. Before joining the law firm, Zurbrugg worked as legal research assistant with AFT's Farmland Information Center and research assistant for the Northern Illinois University Center for Governmental Studies.

Zurbrugg started her career as an Illinois high school vocational agriculture teacher followed by several years as University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service Horticulture Extension Adviser for DeKalb County. Zurbrugg owned and operated her own horticulture consulting firm and co-managed with her late husband Market Integrated Services, a commodity records management consulting business operating in the upper Midwest.

Zurbrugg holds a B.S. in agricultural education and landscape horticulture from The Ohio State University. She earned a B.S in biological sciences, a M.A. in public policy and politics in the life sciences, and her J.D. from Northern Illinois University. Zurbrugg resides in DeKalb, Illinois with her three children.
